What is the Bubble?
The Bubble is the stage right before players reach the money. It's the most tense and important phase of the tournament - and can be exploited massively!
Understanding the Bubble
Example:
• Tournament with 1000 players
• Pays top 100 (10%)
• 105 players remaining
→ You're on the Bubble! 5 players will be eliminated without a prize
Why is the Bubble Important?
Fear dominates everyone! Most players play very scared - they don't want elimination without a prize.
This fear = your golden opportunity!
Strategies by Stack Size
✓ Big Stack (More than 30BB)
Your Strategy: BULLY MODE
- Exploit others' fear mercilessly
- Raise often - especially against medium stacks
- Steal blinds (now they're big!) constantly
- Target medium stacks - they won't defend
- Avoid other big stacks
- Your Goal: Double your stack or more!
💡 Bubble = best time for big stack player. Exploit it!
⚠ Medium Stack (15-30BB)
Your Strategy: SURVIVAL + SELECTIVE AGGRESSION
- Difficult position: Not big nor small
- Avoid confrontations with big stacks
- Target short stacks - they'll fold
- Play tight preflop
- Bluff only in ideal situations
- Your Goal: Reach prizes, then turn aggressive
⚠️ Short Stack (Less than 15BB)
Your Strategy: PUSH/FOLD
- No time for postflop play
- Push or Fold only
- Wait for acceptable hand (any pair, Ax, Kx)
- All-in first - don't call all-ins
- Target late positions
- Your Goal: Quick double or respectable elimination

ICM Concept on the Bubble
ICM (Independent Chip Model) = value of your chips in real money
Illustrative Example:
Situation: 11 players remaining, pays top 10
You have 20BB, someone goes all-in, you have JJ:
• Chip EV: Call is profitable (+EV slightly)
• $ EV: Fold! (-EV according to ICM)
→ Why? Losing your entire stack now costs you a guaranteed prize. Risk is greater than reward!
Same situation, but you have 5BB:
• → Call! You're short stack anyway, you must risk for a real chance to win.
Common Mistakes on the Bubble
❌ Playing scared with big stack: Best time to profit!
❌ Staying passive with short stack: Blinds will eliminate you
❌ Calling instead of Push/Fold: With less than 15BB, no calling!
❌ Ignoring ICM: Chips aren't equal value now
