Position is Everything

Table Positions
Early Position
UTG (Under The Gun) - First to act after the blinds
UTG+1, UTG+2 - Next two after UTG
⚠️ Early Position Disadvantages:
- You act first in all betting rounds
- You don't know what players behind you will do
- Vulnerable to raises from late positions
- Tip: Play only the strongest hands (AA-JJ, AK, AQ)
Middle Positions
MP1, MP2, MP3 - Middle of the table
⚖️ Balanced Position:
- Slightly better than early position
- Still have players behind you
- Can widen your hand range a bit
- Tip: Add TT-88, AJ, KQ, suited connectors
Late Positions
CO (Cutoff) - One seat before dealer
BTN (Button) - Dealer, best position

- You act last on first betting round and all subsequent rounds
- You see most players' actions before you
- You can easily steal blinds
- Better control over pot size
- Tip: Play wide range, be aggressive
Blinds
SB (Small Blind) - Worst position
BB (Big Blind) - Bad position but with opportunity

- But you've already put money in (blind defense)
- SB: Fold often, very hard to play from
- BB: Can defend with wider range
Why is Position So Important?
1. Information = Power
The later you act, the more information you have about your opponents' hand strength. Seeing a check tells you weakness, seeing a raise tells you strength.
2. Pot Control
From late position, you can control pot size. Check to keep pot small, or raise to build it.
3. Bluffing Opportunities
Bluffing is much easier from late position. If everyone checks, one small bet from you can win the pot immediately.
4. Stealing Blinds
From Button or CO, you can raise with marginal hands to steal blinds. These small profits add up over the long run.
